What Is Your Nineveh?
Last week on Tuesday Tea Time with The Lord we discussed Hearing from God. It is so crucial at this time in our world that we are listening to the Lord. Listening to His ways and timing. Not to our flesh, our desires and pride so we don’t find ourselves in disobedience. The worst place we can be is walking in disobedience while we think we are good!
Today we move on to our topic: What is Your Nineveh?
What do I mean by that question? I’m glad you asked! Jonah was asked to go to Nineveh and was told by the Lord to tell the people to repent. They were very evil people and he was very fearful. He chose not to go and run away. On the boat a storm came. It was so severe and bad the men feared they would survive it. Jonah told them it was because of him and to throw him overboard. When they did, the storm immediately stopped.We find that in Jonah chapter 1. Many in the bible had their Nineveh’s.
Moses doubted he was called and good enough. Noah was asked to make an ark when they had never heard or seen rain. As well as many many others! Has God ever asked you to go somewhere or do something that made you fearful? Did He ever take you through a journey that didn’t make sense? As you think of your own life let’s start off with a story. Kamea was 1 and a half. We were at a grocery store and the floor was really shiny. I went to put her down and she was screaming trying with all her might to stay in my arms gripping her hands for dear life around my neck.
In her mind she thought it was water and didn’t feel safe. I tried telling her it’s ok! She is safe to step on the floor yet the fear grips her. As her mom I tried to show her I was on the floor and was safe. That didn’t help. No amount of talking, showing her it was safe was going to change her mind. My Nineveh? Being transparent I have had a lifetime full. I remember when I was in High School I was deathly afraid of speaking in public. My young life leader wanted me to give my testimony in front of a whole hall of adults at a fundraiser dinner. Even though I was more than fearful I knew God wanted me to do it. I was beyond nervous and did it!
In our journey in this life He will ask us to do things! Some will be to help others. Some will be for our growth and some will actually be for both. The important thing is to listen to the Holy Spirit and do what He asks. Fear has a voice! Faith has a voice! Which voice will we listen to? Will we go when He asks us to go? Will we say what He asks us to say? Stop or let go of something He is asking us to? The first part in walking in obedience as one with Christ like we heard last week was Hearing from God. The thing that goes hand and hand with that is listening and following His lead. How do we know it is the Lord not our flesh or the enemies trick? In order to know that, we need to have true sincere intimacy with the Lord. Be still in His Presence.
Be in His Word. Have a relationship with the Holy Spirit. When we think we have gotten as close as we can get? He asks us to go deeper and deeper still. He asks if we are willing to go to higher and higher levels. We need to get out of a place of lazy faith where we worship Him comfortably. Not taking risks and having 5 back up plans. He asks us to burn up the back up plans, step out and trust! Will our face be in the hall of faith? Favor is an invitation to walk in another level of crazier faith. Are we willing to follow instructions being faithful? To be found faithful, wait on the favor and make it final? He doesn’t want distant disciples. Ones that are close obedient having crazy faith
Are we willing to let go of the mirage of control and allow Him to truly grow, heal and mature us? This week as we spend some prayer time let’s lay aside every weight, every distraction, every distortion, every depression. Let us reflect, examine and seek the Lord and what He is asking us to do in this hour.
1.What are your Nineveh’s and how have you overcome them?
2. If not, what steps is God asking you to achieve it?
3.What back up plan do you need to burn up and get back to what He originally asked you to do years ago?{ For some it will be a profession. Others it may be in ministry, family or personal life}
4. Will our face be in the hall of Faith? Are we living our life on the edge? Will we be found Faithful?
5.Will we believe the word He gave last year and not search for a new word?
6.What was He trying to do in our life 10 or 20 years ago that we got distracted from and off track?
7.What limits have we put on God’s instructions and belief?
{God allows space to see if faith or fear will fill it}
8.Are you living below God’s best? God has no cap! Are we conforming to the worlds standards, beliefs and worldly systems spiritually mentally, emotionally, physically, financially, relationship wise, ministry and career?
Let us go through our week doing deep introspection and if we are waiting on God to do something or if He is waiting to find us faithful with what He told us. Lord let this Word be so started in my head, be so weighty it dropped down to my heart and it comes out to my hands in Jesus name. God bless you
